The Union soldier had planned an attack on the Confederate soldiers in Richmond. But a woman named Greenhow warned the Southern military by smugling a coded note in a young girl's curls. So the Southern troops waited for the Confederate army in a small town on the wya to Richmond called Manassas. When the Union approached th esmall town, the two armies met at the Bull run river; which is located in Manassas. At first, the Union seemed to have the war under control. But Thomas Jackson and his regiment of Virginians didn't give up because of General Bernard's speech to his men. So the Southern troops held off the Confederate soldiers until reinforcements came and won the war.
