A Civil War is a war between a nation and itself meaning that every life loss was an Americans. The final death toll of the north and south combined is 620,000 and with a death toll that high out of a nation with only 35 million the affects of these deaths where obvious from hard feelings about deaths to the plain fact that the men you where told to kill are now your country men is a hard concept to grasp. The physical devastation was mostly contained to the south because the majority of the battles where fought in the south. Laid in ruins where large sections of Richmond , Charleston, Atlanta, and Vicksburg. The destruction was not contained in the urban areas the rural areas where littered with dead livestock, uprooted railroads, abandoned houses and plantations, virtually all the crops destroyed. Overall 4 billion dollars of damage was dealt in the south. Our government also met some changes such as the 14 and 15 amendment also the federal government gained more power to prevent the south from succeeding again. Many of the legislative propositions that could not be passed before the war where being passed after. The civil war also boosted processed food and other ready made things because they made them for the soldiers now the civilians wanted them. This much industrialization led to America being an industrial power. Lastly the civil war freed over four million blacks but the racism that the southern culture had developed to morally accept slavery was not completely abolished until the 20th century.
