The North and South Strengths and Weaknesses
North
The North started the war with almost every advantage such as the population of the north was thirteen million more than the south. other things like the technology , banks and factories where in the north too. The north had more farms that grew food for the troops.(the south had farms but the majority was cash crops like tabocco etc.) They also had railroads to transport soldiers and supplies as need be.The north also had the seas wich became critical when the south wanted to inport and export. Although the north had all these advantages they had weaknesses too such as military leadership because the majority of the unions generals where southern so they resigned and joined the confederacy. this weakness shows in the battle of bull run.
South
The souths two biggest advantages was their military leadership, because the majority of the good generals from the union came to the confederacy the confederacy could pull out victorys like bull run. In order for the north to win they would have to invade the south. the souths large geological size was a big advantage and was hard to invade. But if the mississipi was to be controled by the north the confederacy would be split in two and invasion would be easy. The south had many disadvantages such as its economy and its transportation. with no railroads and no money the south faced a shortage of men and supplies in every battle.
